For more than 30 years, the political poster triennial has, above all, opened discussion by highlighting the great political, social and environmental issues that make an impact on our societies.

The political poster triennial is an international competition open to professional graphic designers and students of visual arts, which develops its truly political theme to explore life in the city and in wider society.

Created in 1978 by the Cultural Council for the Mons region Cultural Centre (the Conseil culturel de la Maison de la Culture de la région de Mons), the first triennial was focused on the theme of social struggle in particular.

A European event until 1995, the triennial is now open to contributors from across the globe.

The posters highlight all aspects of life in society: Human rights, the global North-South divide and the Third World, world hunger, the fall of communism, minorities, migration, racism and fascism, underground movements, mass migration, the holocaust, the environment, AIDS, homelessness, poverty, violence against women, abuse and so on, as well as themes that are specifically aligned with what has been happening in the world over the past three years.

In this 14th exhibition, we will therefore see many depictions of subjects such as climate change and the actions of Greta Thunberg, the #metoo movement, American politics embodied in Donald Trump and so on, following their massive media coverage.

MARS, Mons arts de la scène (Mons performing arts), holds over 11,000 posters.
